The invention relates to isolated mesenchymal stromal stem cell (MSSC) that has been differentiated in vitro towards, or to, an intervertebral disc (IVD) cell phenotype for use as medicaments. The cells may be used to treat spinal conditions characterized by degeneration of the intervertebral disc. The cells may also be genetically transformed with an exogenous gene coding for a protein that reduces degeneration of an intervertebral disc.

L'invention concerne une cellule souche stromale mésenchymateuse (MSSC) isolée ayant été différenciée in vitro en phénotype de cellule de disque intervertébral (IVD) s'utilisant comme médicament. Les cellules peuvent servir à traiter des affections de la colonne vertébrale caractérisées par une dégénérescence du disque intervertébral. Ces cellules peuvent aussi être transformées génétiquement à l'aide d'un gène exogène codant pour une protéine qui réduit la dégénérescence d'un disque intervertébral.
