ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The physical and chemical properties of a cellulosic textile material can be substantially improved by firstly sub- jecting the material to a hot mercerisation process and there- after subjecting it to resin impregnation. Cellulosic material so treated has been found to have, when compared with cellulosic material subjected to normal mercerisation, to have better abra- sion resistance, enhanced powers of recovery from creasing while in the wetted state and enhanced recovery values versus embrittle- ment.
