A method of treatment of thrombotic events which comprises administering a therapeutically effective amount of a pharm- aceutical formulation comprising hementin or a material capable of preferentially cleaving between the D and E domains of the fibrinogen linkages present in platelet aggregates, in such an amount and in such a manner as to dissolve a clot which predomi- nantly comprises, by volume, platelet aggregates.
