- 10 - ABSTRACT A method of preparing catalysts which exhibit enhanced hydrocarbon conversion activity which comprises calcining a zeolite such as ZSM-5 at temperatures ranging from about 600 to about 1300°C and subsequently activ- ating it by exposing it to a mixture of ammonia and steam at temperatures ranging from 100 to 1000°C to the extent that at least about 10% crystallinity is preserved in the resulting activated catalyst.
