Methods for treating fibrosis in a mammal are described. An antifibrotic effective amount of a peptide having the formula f-Met-Leu-X where X is selected from the group consisting of Tyr, Tyr-Phe, Phe-Phe and Phe-Tyr is administered to the mammal. The fibrosis may be due to pathological changes resulting, e.g., from pulmonary fibrosis, atherosclerosis, cirrhosis, glomerulosclerosis, chronic pancreatitus, coronary artery disease (such as caused by infection by bacterium Chlamydia pneumoniae, trauma or surgical procedures. Examples of surgical procedures that cause fibrosis are post- operative fibrosis peri-neurally in the dura or nerve roots following spinal surgery, tenolysis of injured or repaired tendons with adhesions, neurolysis of damaged or repaired peripheral nerves with adhesions, post-operative adhesions from gynecologic and abdominal surgeries, reparative surgery of the vas deferens or fallopian tubes for reversal of male or female sterilization, and surgical repair of other tubular structures such as urethra, intestine or esophagus.
La présente invention concerne des traitements de fibrose chez un mammifère. A cet effet, on sélectionne d'abord une dose effective anti-fibrose de peptide représenté par la formule f-Met-Leu-X, dans laquelle X est choisi dans le groupe de Tyr, Tyr-Phe, Phe-Phe et Phe-Tyr, et on l'administre ensuite au mammifère en question. La fibrose peut être due à des modifications pathologiques provoquées par exemple par fibrose pulmonaire, athérosclérose, cirrhose, glomérulosclérose, pancréatite chronique, coronaropathie (comme celles provoquées par une infection par bactérie Chlamydia pneumoniae), traumatismes ou opérations chirurgicales. Parmi les exemples d'opérations chirurgicales pouvant provoquer la fibrose, on peut citer la fibrose postopératoire péri-neurale dans les racines nerveuses ou durales à la suite de chirurgie spinale, ténolyse de tendons lésés ou réparés par adhésions, neurolyse de nerfs périphériques lésés ou réparés par adhésions, adhésions postopératoires dues à une chirurgie gynécologique ou abdominale, chirurgie réparatrice des vas deferens ou des tubes de Fallope dans le cas d'inversion de stérilisation masculine ou féminine, et réparation chirurgicale d'autres structures tubulaires telles que l'urètre, les intestins ou l'oesophage.
