ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A tree planter shovel for making a "V" or "L" shaped cut in the ground, for planting seedlings. The shovel comprises a handle centrally secured to a blade. The blade has two preferably similar parts extending from a junction line forwardly in planes at an angle of from about 90° to about 110° to each other. The bottom front edges of the two parts of the blade are inhardly and rearwardly tapered in the downwards direction to a point at the bottom of the junction line. The shovel enables a user to make an "L"-shaped cut in the ground with one downward motion of the shovel.
