The protector comprises two plastic mouldings, fastened together to form a cone around a tree planted in a city avenue. The protector prevents salt from leaching down to the root-ball of the tree, and protects the tree from damage from snow and slush piled around the tree. The protectors are temporary, and the fasteners used can be removed by the authorities, but are of the vandal-resistant type.

Le protecteur empêche le sel d'être entraîné vers les racines de l'arbre et protège celui-ci contre les dommages causés par la neige et la boue s'accumulant autour de lui. Les protecteurs sont temporaires; les dispositifs de fixation peuvent être enlevés par les employés de la ville, mais ils résistent aux dégradations faites par malveillance.
