ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A tremolo apparatus is provided herein which includes a tremolo means with a tremolo bar and a base flange which extends into a cavity in the guitar. When the tremolo means is operated conventionally, springs return the tremolo means to an original position against a stop located in the cavity. The stop is mounted for movement on rods against the action of springs. When the tremolo bar is moved toward the body of the instrument, e.g. a guitar, the tremolo means moves in a first direction wherein the base flange moves away from the stop, while when the tremolo bar is moved away from the body of the instrument, e.g., the guitar, the tremolo means moves in a second direction wherein the base flange moves the stop against the action of the springs. The springs return the stop and the base flange, and hence the tremolo means, to their original position when the tremolo bar is released.
