TRENCHING ATTACHMENT ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A trenching attachment adapted to be mounted to a power unit includes a mounting frame, a head drive assembly, a trenching boom assembly pivotally mounted to the head drive assembly and a hydraulic boom cylinder for raising and lowering the trenching boom assembly with respect to the mounting frame. The head drive assembly is mounted to the mounting frame in a transverse orientation and includes a hydraulic motor, flywheel, gear reduction mechanism and trenching chain drive sprocket mechanically coupled to one another about a common rotational axis. An auger assembly is mounted to the trenching boom assembly and includes adjustable mounts for mounting the augers at one of a plurality of transversely spaced positions with respect to the trenching boom assembly. The auger assembly can be mounted at one of a plurality of longitudinally spaced positions along the trenching boom assembly.
