When different trialkyl methanes containing 25 through 36 carbon atoms are mixed the mixture exhibits surprisingly superior lubricant properties including low viscosity, high VI, low volatility, very low pour point and a dynamic viscosity at low temperatures that is less than those of PAO lubricants. Statistically predictable mixture compositions of mixed trialkyl methanes are prepared by reaction of mixtures of n-alkyl organometallic compounds with mixed aliphatic esters or equivalent compounds.

Lorsqu'on mélange des trialkylméthanes différents contenant de 25 à 36 atomes de carbone, le mélange obtenu se distingue par des propriétés de lubrification étonnamment élevées et notamment une faible viscosité, un indice de viscosité élevé, un pont d'écoulement très bas et une viscosité dynamique à basse température inférieure à celle des lubrifiants à base de polyalpha-oléfine (PAO). La réaction de mélanges entre d'une part de composés n-alkyle organométalliques et d'autre part des esters aliphatiques mélangés ou des composés équivalents permet l'élaboration de compositions aux mélanges statistiquement prédictibles de mélanges de trialkylméthanes.
