A method for enhancing growth of plants comprising contacting a Trichoderma strain with the plant or a plant seed under conditions effective for the Trichoderma strain to colonize the roots of the plant or a plant grown from the plant seed, thereby creating a plant- Trichoderma system. The plant or plant seed is grown under conditions effective to sustain the plant-Trichoderma system in a planting medium and to enhance plant growth. The Trichoderma strain is selected from the group consisting of Trichoderma atroviride strain WW10TC4 (ATCC accession number PTA 9707), Trichoderma harzianum strain RR17Bc (ATCC accession number PTA 9708), Trichoderma harzianum strain F11 Bab (ATCC accession number PTA 9709), and combinations thereof. Methods of enhancing resistance of plants to abiotic stress, increasing nitrogen use efficacy in plants, reducing nitrous oxide emissions in air, reducing leaching of nitrates into soil and water, and enhancing sequestration of carbon from air are disclosed.

L'invention porte sur un procédé d'amélioration de la croissance des plantes comprenant la mise en contact d'une souche de trichoderma avec la plante ou une graine de plante dans des conditions efficaces pour que la souche de trichoderma colonise les racines de la plante ou une plante développée à partir de la graine de plante, créant ainsi un système plante-trichoderma. La plante ou graine de plante est développée dans des conditions efficaces pour entretenir le système plante-trichoderma dans un milieu de plantation et pour améliorer la croissance végétale. La souche de trichoderma est choisie dans le groupe constitué par la souche de trichoderma atroviride WW10TC4 (numéro d'ordre ATCC PTA 9707), la souche de trichoderma harzianum RR17Bc (numéro d'ordre ATCC PTA 9708), la souche de trichoderma harzianum F11 Bab (numéro d'ordre ATCC PTA 9709) et des combinaisons de celles-ci. L'invention porte également sur des procédés d'amélioration de la résistance de plantes à un stress abiotique, d'augmentation de l'efficacité d'utilisation de l'azote dans des plantes, de réduction des émissions d'oxyde nitreux dans l'air, de réduction des fuites de nitrates dans le sol et dans l'eau et d'amélioration du stockage du carbone provenant de l'air.
