A tag identification system is provided for monitoring and tracking transport of meat in a packing plant. The tag identification system is used in conjunction with various trolley systems for transporting meat sections, such as in whole animal form, carcass form, carcass halves, or fabricated meat sections. The trolley identification tag (28) has a machine readable code on a face portion of the tag. A free edge of the tag is secured to the trolley arm (20) in a manner to position the machine readable code laterally offset of the trolley arm (20). The code is defined by a unique pattern of holes (30) where the tag (28) accommodates holes (30) of sufficient size so as not to be blocked by usual debris in a packing house. A camera system is used for reading the tags (28) which, in turn, is linked to a computer which is programmed to analyze the tag image and deduct the unique code for the tag (28). This system is particularly useful in packing plants for beef, pork and lamb.
Ce système d'identification par étiquette permet de surveiller et de suivre le transport de viande dans une installation de conditionnement. On utilise ce système avec différents dispositifs à chariot servant au transport de pièces de viande, notamment d'un animal entier, de carcasses, de demi-carcasses ou de pièces découpées. L'étiquette d'identification du chariot (28) porte un code lisible par machine sur une partie de sa face. Une extrémité libre de l'étiquette est fixée au bras du chariot (20) de manière que le code lisible par machine soit décalé latéralement par rapport au bras du chariot (20). Ce code consiste en un motif unique constitué de trous (30), l'étiquette (28) portant des trous (30) de dimensions suffisantes pour ne pas être bloquée par les débris habituellement présents dans une station de conditionnement. Une caméra, qui sert à la lecture des étiquettes (28), est reliée à un ordinateur programmé pour analyser l'image de l'étiquette et déduire le code unique de celle-ci. Ce système convient particulièrement dans des installations de conditionnement de viande bovine, porcine et ovine.
