TROUBLE LIGHT UNIT ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A trouble light unit molded, in preferred embodiment, of plastic, except for those elements required to be con- ductive. One end of its tubular handle defines a receptacle receiving a spacer block to which is slip fit a lamp socket and switch device mounting female terminals received and frictionally clamped in their required position by clips integrated with the spacer block. The frictional clamp of the terminal elements ties the lamp socket to the spacer block for insertion thereof as a unit as a diametral split in the outer end portion of the receptacle wall structure accommodates laterally projected portions of the included switch. The spacer block is designed to seat within the receptacle to position and maintain the female terminals in alignment with slots in the wall of the handle. A reinforcing plate providing a polarity bridge is incorpor- ated in the handle wall structure to maintain the required configuration of the slots. The spacer block includes an integrated ground terminal an opening to which is placed in alignment with an aperture in the wall of the handle having a predetermined relation to the polarity bridge and the included slots, to serve therewith to provide an electrical receptacle. A sleeve-like insert applied in receptacle end por- tion of the handle forms substantially dead air space -1- (cont. on la) within its interior wall surface which insulates the body of the inserted lamp socket. A preferred lamp or bulb cage for use with the handle incorporates a generally imperforate backing portion which permits soft light to pass and an angularly related portion which underlies the bulb and provides vents inducing air flow facilitating the escape of heat from the caged bulb or lamp. The handle also incorporates plate-like projections which shield the switch operator and preclude direct impact thereof on a surface against which the total assembly may be dropped or bumped.
