A vehicle decklid latch is provided with an emergency release lever mounted to a housing associated with the latch for movement between an actuated and a non-actuated configuration. The emergency release lever has a handle extending away from the housing so as to be accessible from the interior of the vehicle trunk. A coupler operably connects the handle to a pawl associated with the latch to cause the pawl to move from a rest position toward a released position as the emergency release lever is moved from its non-actuated toward its actuated configuration. Preferably, luminescent indicia are provided on the emergency release lever to indicate its location and mode of operation to the user.
