(Case 8421) ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION A truss-type brake beam having a bent configuration in which the midpoint of both the compression and the tension members lies at a level below the ends of the brake beam. A specially constructed strut member is disposed between the compression and the tension members at their midpoints and includes an upraised portion via which a force-transfer lever of the linkage interconnecting the respective brake beams of a truck-mounted brake assembly can be mounted to rotate above the level of the tension member. Such an arrangement allows the force-transfer lever to be located closer to the tension member than heretofore possible, thus providing sufficient room to mount a brake cylinder in the space betwen the compression and the tension members adjacent one side of the strut member. Moreover, the upraised portion places the force-transfer lever at a height where torque forces acting on the brake beam are virtually eliminated.
