ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A sliding die jaw holder assembly in a die set for a cutoff press of the type having a base and a ram which is displaceable toward and away from the base. The assembly is adapted to be mounted on the base for the purpose of clamping and unclamping a workpiece at a position between the ram and the base according to a program of ram movement relative to the base. The assembly comprises a first die jaw holder adapted to be mounted on the base and to receive at least one die jaw for engagement of one side of the workpiece; a second die jaw holder slidably disposed on the first die jaw holder and adapted to receive and carry a second die jaw for engaging the other side of the workpiece; and actuator means movable by the ram for produc- ing relative sliding displacement of the first and second die jaw holders relative to one another for the purpose of clamping and unclamping the workpiece between the die jaws,
