A tool for expanding a tube into engagement with a wall of a hole in a plate and simultaneously forming a flange on the end of the tube has a mandrel having a tapered distal portion. The mandrel receives for rotation and axial displacement a tubular cage. The cage carries expanding rolls, each of which is supported for rotation in a slot in a distal portion of the cage, is displaceable radially, is in rolling engagement with the tapered portion of the mandrel and the tube when the tool is in operation, and is skewed at a small angle to the mandrel axis so as to impart traction to the cage and the mandrel and draw them distally into the cage upon rotation of the mandrel. A forming roll is supported for rotation and for displacement radially with respect to the mandrel axis in an opening in the cage and has: at least one conical following surface that is in rolling engagement with the tapered portion of the mandrel; a conical expanding surface that is in rolling engagement with the tube; a forming surface immediately adjacent the expanding surface proximally that is in rolling engagement with the tube; and a conical thrust-receiving surface at a proximal end. Axial force is transmitted from the cage to the thrust-receiving surface by an annular two race axial thrust bearing, which is supported on and surrounds the cage proximally of the forming roll.
Cette invention concerne un outil servant à accroître le diamètre d'une canalisation pour lui faire épouser le contour d'une ouverture dans une plaque et, en même temps, à former une collerette à l'extrémité de la canalisation. Cet outil comporte un mandrin à extrémité distale conique travaillant dans une cage tubulaire dans laquelle il peut coulisser et tourner. La cage renferme des rouleaux de dilatation logés dans des fentes ménagées à l'extrémité distale de la cage. Ces rouleaux peuvent se déplacer radialement et tournent librement entre la partie conique du mandrin et la cage. Ils sont légèrement obliques par rapport à l'axe du mandrin, de manière qu'ils exercent sur ce dernier un effort de traction qui le maintien dans l'extrémité distale de la cage. La cage renferme aussi un rouleau de formage logé dans une ouverture où il peut également se déplacer radialement et tourner librement par rapport au mandrin. Ce rouleau présente, de l'extrémité distale à l'extrémité proximale, au moins une face conique suiveuse en contact avec la partie conique du mandrin, une face conique de dilatation en contact avec la cage, une face de formage contiguë à la face de dilatation et également en contact avec la cage et une face conique de butée. La poussée axiale est transmise de la cage à la face de butée par un palier annulaire à deux chemins de roulement, fixé sur la cage proximalement par rapport au rouleau de formage.
