ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A furnace for carrying out gas reactions in ceramic tube assemblies is disclosed. In this furnace the heating chambers the recuperators and the flue gas cutoff canal are arranged in a complex, energy-saving type of construction. This furnace is suitable particularly for producing hydrocyanic acid according to the BMA process. The furnace comprises a tube furnace for carrying out gas reactions, in ceramic tube assemblies which are freely suspended in a heating chamber of the furnace, which furnace comprises burners, a flue gas cutoff canal and recuperators, said furnace being constructed sub- stantially with brick as an ashlar or cube and externally provided with a metal sheath, said furnace comprising at least a pair of twin heating chambers for receiving the ceramic tube assemblies, recuperator chambers with recuperators communicating with said heating chambers towards the centre of the furnace, and a flue gas cutoff canal as a structural unit disposed between the recuperator chambers, each heating chamber having maximally only one burner.
