The invention generally relates to apparatus (44) and methods for moving tubulars into and out of a well bore, and particularly, a tubular injector with two or more gripping members which bind the outer surface of the tubular, two or more actuators which cause the gripping members to bind or release the tubular, and at least one reciprocator (30) for translating a gripping member (312, 314) to move the tubular, or for repositioning the gripping member. A method of translating a tubular is also provided which includes the steps of binding the outer surface of a tubular with at least one gripping members by engagement with an actuator, and translating a gripping member by reciprocator to move the tubular.

La présente invention concerne d'une manière générale un appareil (44) ainsi que des procédés permettant d'introduire des tubulaires dans un puits de forage et de les en extraire, et plus particulièrement un injecteur de tubulaires pourvu d'au moins deux organes de préhension agrippant la surface extérieure du tubulaire, au moins deux vérins agissant sur lesdits organes de préhension afin qu'ils agrippent ou relâchent le tubulaire, et au moins un organe à mouvement alternatif (30) permettant de translater un organe de préhension (312, 314) pour déplacer le tubulaire, ou bien de repositionner ledit organe de préhension. L'invention concerne également un procédé pour translater un tubulaire comportant les étapes consistant à agripper, grâce à la coopération avec un vérin, la surface extérieure d'un tubulaire avec au moins un organe de préhension, et à translater, au moyen de l'organe à mouvement alternatif, un organe de préhension en vue de déplacer le tubulaire.
