An assembly for applying microwave irradiation to a load having a generally circular cross section. The applicator supports a dominant TM120 mode and the load is aligned with a central axis in the applicator, with each aperture of a pair of feed apertures diametrically opposed (for the circular cross-sectional case) or located on parallel opposed walls (for the polygonal cross-sectional case) with one of the pair of feed apertures positioned at 90 degrees with respect to the other pair about the axis. The applicator may be formed as a cylinder or as a polygonal prisms of the type having parallel opposed sides, such as those having a square, hexagonal or octagonal cross section. Means such as a microwave transparent tube or conveyor provide for positioning of the load in the applicator. In an alternative embodiment, two cavities are used, with one cavity associated with each of the two feed systems, and a means for conveying the load from the first cavity to the second cavity is provided. In one octagonal cross section embodiment, the two feed aperture pairs are located in one cavity.

L'applicateur fonctionne en mode dominant TM¿120? et la charge est alignée avec un axe central dans l'applicateur, chaque ouverture d'une paire d'ouvertures d'alimentation étant opposée diamétralement (dans le cas d'une section transversale circulaire) ou étant placé sur des parois parallèles opposées (dans le cas d'une section transversale polygonale), avec une des paires d'ouverture d'alimentation positionnée à 90· par rapport à l'autre paire autour de l'axe. L'applicateur peut se présenter sous la forme d'un cylindre ou d'un prisme polygonal du type présentant des côtés opposés parallèles, tels que ceux présentant une section transversale carrée, hexagonale ou octogonale. On a prévu un dispositif tel qu'un transporteur ou un tube transparent hyperfréquence permettant le positionnement de la charge dans l'applicateur. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, on utilise deux cavités, avec une cavité associée à chacun des deux systèmes d'alimentation, et on utilise un dispositif pour acheminer la charge de la première cavité à la seconde cavité. Dans le mode de réalisation à section transversale octogonale, les deux paires d'ouverture d'alimentation sont situées dans une cavité.
