ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Tubular reactor for performing endothermal gas reactions in which pressurized gas, more particularly, a rare gas, at a temperature of approximately 600 to 1000°C, is used for covering the endothermal requirements. The gas is heated in a nuclear reactor to the necessary temperature. The tubular reactor com- prises a pressure shell with an internally disposed insulation in which vertically disposed jacketed tubes are inserted compris- ing a reaction tube, filled with à catalyst where appropriate and a sheathing tube which surrounds the reaction tube while forming an annular gap through which the heat-delivering gas flows upward- ly. The sheathing tubes are combined into a bundle in which at least the top portion of the tubes are in mutual contact and the imaginary connecting line of the centres of three tubes in contact form an equilateral triangle. At six places, uniformly distributed over the circumference, the top ends of the sheathing tubes are provided with longitudinal slots into which connecting elements are inserted which have approximately the same length as the slots. The connecting elements are fixedly connected to the sheathing tubes by means of welding and on whose top surfaces the reaction tubes bear.
