A method for inhibiting the action of TNF for treating neurological conditions in a human by administering a TNF antagonist for reducing damage to neuronal tissue or for modulating the immune response affecting neuronal tissue of the human. The TNF antagonist administered is selected from the group consisting of etanercept and infliximab. The TNF antagonist is administered subcutaneously, intravenously, intrathecally, or intramuscularly. Methotrexate or Leflunomide may be administered concurrently with the TNF antagonist for demyelinating diseases and certain other neurological disorders.

Méthode d'inhibition de l'action du facteur de nécrose tumorale TNF dans le traitement d'états neurologiques chez un sujet humain, consistant en l'administration d'un agoniste du TNF afin de réduire la détérioration du tissu neuronal ou de moduler la réponse immune affectant le tissu neuronal du sujet humain. L'antagoniste du TNF administré est sélectionné dans le groupe constitué d'étanercept et d'infliximab. L'antagoniste du TNF est administré par voie sous-cutanée, intraveineuse, intrathécale ou intramusculaire. On peut administrer du méthotrexate ou du léflunomide simultanément à l'antagoniste du TNF contre des maladies démyélinisantes et certains autres troubles neurologiques.
