In a tundish (1) for receiving and filtering of melts of iron-type metals, comprising an outlet (5) in the bottom region for discharging the molten metal after passing through reversing and/or filtering means, there is mounted a ceramic filter (3) being removable in a manner known per se and covering essentially the whole horizontal section of the tundish (1) in the tundish (1), which filter (3) extends essentially in horizontal direction and is provided with openings (4), which are arranged in an essentially vertical direction being the flow direction of the molten metal through the tundish (1), whereby with a simple construction a purification or filtering of molten metals can be achieved also for high casting velocities.
