A method of tuning a multiport amplifier and a multiport amplifier are provided. The multiport amplifier comprises an even number of microwave power amplifiers (A1-A8) arranged in parallel, a series of input ports (p1-p8) and a series of output ports (q1-q8), the input ports being connected to the amplifiers by a series of input hybrids (A-M) and the output ports being connected to the amplifiers by a series of output hybrids (A-M), whereby an input signal at any given input port is amplified by all amplifiers, and then recombined into an output signal at a given output port. The method includes the steps of matching each amplifier in a pair of adjacent amplifiers to the other to an extent which is greater than matching between non paired amplifiers while still being able to ensure acceptable signal isolation between all output ports. This method of tuning results in an MPA well suited to the requirements of certain frequency re-use schemes and which has a significantly reduced set-up and test time.
L'invention concerne un procédé pour accorder un amplificateur multiport et un amplificateur multiport. Ledit amplificateur multiport comprend un nombre pair d'amplificateurs de puissance hyperfréquence (A1-A8) montés en parallèle, une série de ports d'entrée (p1-p8) et une série de ports de sortie (q1-q8), les ports d'entrée étant connectés aux amplificateurs au moyen d'une série d'hybrides d'entrée (A-M) et les ports de sortie étant connectés aux amplificateurs par une série d'hybrides de sortie (A-M). Un signal d'entrée au niveau d'un port d'entrée donné quelconque est amplifié par tous les amplificateurs, puis recombiné en un signal de sortie au niveau d'un port de sortie donné. Le procédé consiste à établir une correspondance entre chaque amplificateur d'une paire d'amplificateurs adjacents et l'autre jusqu'à ce cette correspondance soit plus grande que celle établie entre des amplificateurs non appariés, tout en étant capable d'assurer une isolation acceptable entre tous les ports de sortie. Ce procédé d'accord a pour résultat un puits d'amplificateur multiport approprié aux besoins de certains mécanismes de réutilisation de fréquence et présente un temps de d'installation et de test significativement réduit.
