An access system for providing subcutaneous access to a vessel, organ, or body cavity comprises a needle (4) and a rigid or semi-rigid tunneler (8) arranged coaxially around the needle, such that the needle moves slidably within the tunneler. Optionally a sheath (28) may be positioned coaxial to the tunneler. The tunneler-needle system is inserted through an incision in a patient's skin to initiate a procedure whereby a catheter is inserted into the vessel, organ, or body cavity.

L'invention se rapporte à un système d'accès permettant d'accéder de manière sous-cutanée à un vaisseau, organe ou cavité corporelle présentant une aiguille (4) et un perforateur rigide ou semi-rigide (8) disposé coaxialement autour de l'aiguille de telle sorte que l'aiguille glisse dans le perforateur. On peut placer une gaine (28) coaxiale par rapport au perforateur. Le système perforateur-aiguille est inséré à travers une incision dans la peau d'un patient afin d'amorcer une procédure consistant à insérer un cathéter dans le vaisseau-organe ou cavité corporelle.
