A novel turbulence unit is provided herein which is especially designed and suited for a heat exchange column which is based on the flow of a gas or fluid or for a column for the contact of a gas or a fluid with suspensions of solid substances. The turbulence unit includes at least one turbulence-causing body for generating turbulence in gases and fluids. The turbulence unit consisting of a three-dimensional grate unit which contains at least one turbulence-causing body encaged therein.
