ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A tuyere for use in treating a bath of molten metal comprises a tubular body member having a mounting flange on one end and an opening for introducing gas into the tubular member in one end thereof, a chamber is formed in one end of the tuyere for receiving gas. A plurality of small tubes communicate with the chamber and extend to a discharge end of the tuyere. The small tubes are positioned in parallel relation to one another in a first part of the tuyere and in another part of the tuyere the small tubes are arranged in a spiral configuration engaging the inner surface of said tubular body member. A refractory core is positioned in said tubular body member and in the area defined by the small tubes and a portion of each of the small tubes inwardly of the discharge end of the tuyere is partially flattened to form a modified oval shape so that the ends of each of the small tubes forms an elongated narrow opening arranged to discharge gas into said molten metal bath tangentially of the tuyere.
