ABSTRACT There is disclosed a system for removing both anions and cations from solution. A pair of endless belts are employed, one belt has incorpor- ated into its construction an anion exchange resin and the other belt has so incorporated a cation exchange resin. Both belts are passed through the flowing solute in a direction opposite to its flow while simultaneously making a number of traversals perpendicular to the fluid flow. All the fluid is caused to pass through each belt a plurality of times. The fluid is there- by substantially deionized. Upon leaving the flowing liquid, the anion belt is passed through an anion resin regeneration tank where it is stripped of its captured anions and regenerated prior to returning to the fluid under treat- ment. The cation belt similarly is removed from the fluid under treatment and passes to a cation resin regenerating tank where it is similarly stripped of captured cations and regenerated prior to return to the fluid.
