ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A twin-wire former for a paper machine with a first and a second wire, each forming a wire loop, and with a plurality of dewatering slats within the two wire loops. The slats of the first wire bear on the inside surface of the first wire (first slats), and the slats of the second wire bear on the inside surface of the second wire (second slats). The slats are arranged in groups within suction boxes, each suction box being connectable to a vacuum. The suction boxes of the two wires are opposed, overlapping at least partly. Each suction box can be connected--indirectly or directly--to a vacuum, the vacuum being adjustable to the effect that the wire is always wetted by the wire water within the respective suction box.
