An electrical connector for joining the ends of electrical wires has a cap of insulation material with a central bore, open at one end and closed at the other end by an integral end wall, and a coiled wire spring positioned in the bore. The spring has a tapered portion which, in its free state, is in contact, at least in part, with a wall of the central bore. The spring has a first intermediate portion with at least one coil which, in its free state, is out of contact with the wall of the central bore. The spring has a second intermediate portion having at least one coil, larger in diameter than the at least one coil in the first intermediate portion, with the at least one coil in the second intermediate portion being in contact, at least in part, with the wall of the central bore. There is a terminating coil at the end of the spring which has an internal diameter which substantially closes the spring to the passage of a solid wire positioned therein, with the terminating coil being in contact with the wall of the central bore.
