ABSTRACT A pin element (8) of the type used in a multiple pin electrical connector comprises an inner conductive portion formed of three helically wound oxygen free copper wires (18), and an outer conductive portion formed of a cluster of equal diameter outer wires (22,24) helically wound around the inner portion for frictionally engaging a socket (15). From 25% to 70% of the outer wires are formed of beryllium copper and the remaining outer wires are formed of oxygen free copper to reduce engagement forces while maintaining minimum separation forces.
