Abstract of the Disclosure A twisted-loop type, dead-end grip apparatus is adapted to be connected between an axial end of an elongated element such as a guy strand and an attchment fitting so that a tensile load applied to the attachment fitting is transmitted to the elongated clement via the grip apparatus. The grip apparatus includes a plurality of wires secured to one another and formed into a pair of generally straight leg portions and a central loop portion interposed between the leg portions. The wires within each of the leg portions form an open helix while the wires within the loop portion form a closed helix. A core rod extends within the closed helix of the loop portion and includes an outer diameter substantially equal to the inner diameter of the closed helix. The core rod extends at least partially through the loop portion in order to inhibit wear of the wires within the loop portion during cyclic loading of the apparatus. A method of constructing a grip apparatus includes, among other steps, the step of cabling a central portion of an elongated element so that the wires of the central portion which are preformed into an open helix ate closed about a core rod so as to provide substantially full coverage of the core rod. Thereafter, the elongated element and the core rod are bent to define two leg portions each having an open helix and a loop portion defined by the central portion.
