A new catheter emplacement unit and method for manufacturing catheter emplacement units is described. The catheter emplacement unit is of the type including a housing for gripping the catheter emplacement unit and a sharpened cannula extending from the housing for receipt thereover of a catheter unit. The housing has a flash chamber in fluid communication with the needle, however, the flash chamber is formed as a separate piece and thereafter attached to the housing in fluid communication with the cannula. The flash chamber may be attached to the housing any number of ways, for example, by press fitting, adhesive bonding, or ultrasonically welding.
