The invention relates to a two-dimensional ionising particle detector comprising a matrix of detecting fibres, each detecting fibre forming a pixel of the detector. One detecting fibre comprises a glass capillary which is filled with liquid scintillator having a chemical composition which is selected such that the mean free path of primary scintillation photons is negligible compared to the diameter of the capillary (d). The invention is suitable, for example, for the imaging of particles with high resolution power.

L'invention concerne un détecteur bidimensionnel de particules ionisantes comprenant une matrice de fibres détectrices, chaque fibre détectrice constituant un pixel du détecteur. Une fibre détectrice est constituée d'un capillaire de verre rempli de scintillateur liquide dont la composition chimique est choisie de façon que le libre parcours moyen de photons de scintillation primaire soit négligeable devant le diamètre du capillaire (d). L'invention s'applique, par exemple, à l'imagerie de particules à fort pouvoir de résolution.
