ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to electrical connectors. A problem exists in conflicting needs for standardization of connectors and for connectors having different opera- tional characteristics. Different users have different operational requirements, and while some users need a snatch-release connection others need a more secure, push- pull connection. The present invention provides both types of behavior (push-pull and snatch-release) from a single receptacle-part using suitable different plug-parts. This invention provides an electrical connector comprising two parts, a first part having a circumferentially-extending, radially-resilient retaining ring captive therein and a second part having a circumferentially-extending retaining projection, the resilience of the retaining ring permitting the parts to be mated and separated by radial distortion of the ring as it passes over the said retaining projection during mating and separation.
