A two-stage pump has a gerotor, an intermediate ring, and an outer stator. The gerotor has n lobes meshing with n+1 lobes on an internal section of the intermediate ring. There are m lobes on an external section of the intermediate ring meshing with m+1 lobes on the outer stator. The three components are coplanar and the intermediate ring acts both as a stator for the inside gerotor and as a gerotor for the outer stator. The gerotor is mounted eccentrically with the intermediate ring and concentrically with the outer stator. While the gerotor and intermediate ring form one pump, the intermediate ring and outer stator form the other pump. Either one of them can be used as either a first-stage or second-stage pump depending on different applications.
