A process for making a phosphoester polymer comprising the recurring monomeric units of formula (I), wherein X is -O- or -NR"-, where R" is H or alkyl; L is a divalent organic moiety; R' is H, alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, heterocyclic, or heterocycloxy; and n is between about 25 to 2,000, is described. The process comprises the steps of: (a) polymerizing in the presence of a solvent p moles of a di-XH compound having formula (II): H - X - L - X - H wherein X and L are as defined above, with q moles, where p q, of a phosphorodihalo compound to form a polymer of formula (I) , wherein n is about 12 to 1,000, having a first molecular weight Mw1, wherein the solvent is present in an amount greater than about 5 ml of solvent per gram of compound of formula (II); (b) removing at least about 25 % of the solvent to form a more concentrated reaction mixture; and (c) further polymerizing the concentrated reaction mixture for an additional time sufficient to produce a polymer of formula (I) wherein n is between about 25 and 2,000, the polymer having a second molecular weight Mw2, which is significantly higher than Mw1.
Cette invention se rapporte à un procédé pour produire un polymère de phosphoester comprenant les unités monomères répétitives représentées par la formule (I), dans laquelle X représente -O- ou -NR"-, où R" représente H ou alkyle; L représente une fraction organique divalente; R' représente H, alkyle, alkoxy, aryle, aryloxy, hétérocyclique ou hétérocycloxy; et n est compris entre environ 25 et 2 000. Ce procédé consiste: (a) à polymériser, en présence d'un solvent, p moles d'un composé di-XH ayant la formule (II): H - X - L - X - H, dans laquelle X et L sont définis ci-dessus, avec q moles (p ? q) d'un composé phosphorodihalo, afin de former un polymère de formule (I), où n est compris entre environ 12 et 1 000, ayant une première masse moléculaire Mw¿1?, le solvant étant présent en quantité supérieure à environ 5 ml du solvant par gramme du composé de formule (II); (b) à éliminer au moins 25 % environ du solvant, afin de former un mélange de réaction plus concentré; et (c) à prolonger la polymérisation de ce mélange de réaction concentré pendant une période supplémentaire suffisante pour produire un polymère de formule (I), où n est compris entre environ 25 et 2 000, ledit polymère ayant une seconde masse moléculaire Mw¿2?, qui est considérablement supérieure à Mw¿1?.
