A cubic liquid crystal composition, characterized by containing at least one amphiphilic compound which is represented by the general formula (1) and has an IV/OV value of 0.65 to 0.95 and water or an aqueous solvent: (1) wherein R is a hydrophilic group; X and Y are each hydrogen or together represent oxygen; n is an integer of 0 to 4; and m is an integer of 0 to 3.
