A B S T R A C T O F T H E D I S C L O S U R E "TYPESETTING SYSTEM" A typesetting system comprises a plurality of user terminals which are connectible with a remote central typesetting bureau through the public telephone system. Each terminal has a display screen or VDU, an operating keybank and a facsimile printer. The bureau comprises a photo-typesetting installation and a computer proof generator. On command by a connected user the proof generator is operative to transmit over the connecting telephone line signals which operate the facsimile printer at the user terminal to reproduce a hard copy of the type character image which has been set into a memory of the typesetter installation by the user. This facsimile proof can be obtained before the typesetter actually sets the type.
