TYPEWRITER SYSTEM FOR LATERAL- LY SEPARATED RIBBON SECTIONS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A typewriter ribbon system is disclosed which enables selection of any specific longitudinal portion of the ribbon to be present in the operative impact area of a typewriter. The system includes a ribbon having longitudinal portions of different characteristics, each portion being separated from the other by a barrier portion and supported at each end by a spool. A drive system is provided on each spool to drive the ribbon through the operative area of the typewriter at the direction of a control system capable of providing selection of a specific portion of the ribbon to be placed in the operative impact area of a typewriter.
