A die (9) and associated method for refur- bishing a tyre wherein the die (9) has impressed therein the negative of a pattern to be embossed upon the side wall of a used tyre casing (5) and is arranged to be located over and in proper registra- tion with a veneer (8) attached to the tyre casing wall between that wall and the corresponding por- tion of a casing envelope (1, 2). A radially inner portion (11) of the die (9) extends at least par- tially around the bead (6) of the tyre casing (5), to centralise the die with respect thereto and to retain the die (9) in proper registration therewith, and hence with the veneer (8), during a subse- quent curing operation.

L'invention se rapporte à une matrice (9) et à un procédé associé de rechapage d'un pneu. Dans cette matrice (9) est imprimé le négatif d'un motif qui sera marqué en relief sur le flanc d'une carcasse (5) de pneu usé. Cette matrice est conçue pour être placée exactement sur une feuille de plaquage (8) qui est fixée sur la paroi de la carcasse, entre cette paroi et la partie correspondante de l'enveloppe (1, 2) de la carcasse. Une partie interne radiale (11) de la matrice (9) s'étend au moins partiellement autour du bourrelet (6) de la carcasse (5) du pneu afin de centrer la matrice par rapport à cette carcasse et de la maintenir et la faire correspondre correctement avec la carcasse, et par conséquent, avec la feuille de plaquage (8) lors d'une opération ultérieure de vulcanisation.
