The invention concerns a tyre with radial ply reinforcement (1), topped with a top ply reinforcement comprising at least two plies (32) and (33) of reinforcing elements, criss-crossed from one ply (32) to the next (33), said two plies (32, 33) being of unequal axial width. The invention is characterised in that each edge of the axially less wide ply (33) is separated from the axially wider ply (32) by a section P made of a rubber mixture, said section P being itself separated from the skim coat C of the less wide ply (33) by an edge gum G, said section P, said edge gum G and said skim coat C having as respective elasticity moduli at 10 % elongation MP, MG, MC such that: MC >/= MG>MP.
