A very compact drive and transducer system for removable rotational data storage media retains only a portion of the media (12) in a housing (10) from which drive (30) and transducer (100) mechanisms deploy. In the deployed position (Figure 12) the media is held and rotated, while the transducer system is positioned at selected track locations. After usage is completed, the media is released or ejected and another can be inserted, or the deployable mechanisms can be returned to a packed configuration within the housing (Figure 1).

Dans le système très compact de lecture et de transduction de supports de données amovibles rotatifs proposé dans cette invention, une partie seulement du support (12) s'enfonce dans un boîtier (10) à partir duquel se déploient les mécanismes du lecteur (30) et du transducteur (100). Dans la position déployée (figure 12), ces mécanismes maintiennent et font tourner le support tandis que le système de transduction se positionne aux emplacements sélectionnés sur les pistes. Une fois l'usage terminé, le support est relâché ou éjecté et un autre peut être inséré, ou bien les mécanismes déployables reprennent une configuration fermée à l'intérieur du boîtier (figure 1).
