An organic black matrix having high resistivity (~10 11 ohm/square), high optical density (~ 2.0) at ultra thin film thicknesses (~ 1.0 microns) for improved STN and TFT pixel display applications is made possible by combining polyimideldye solutions and mixed metal oxide pigment dispersions at a weight/weight ratio of dye to pigment of 1:15 to 3:15. The need for low resistivity carbon black, as a replacement for sputtered chrome, is negated.

L'invention porte sur une matrice noire organique présentant: une forte résistivité (>/= 10<11> ohm par carré), une densité optique élevée (>/= 2,0), et une épaisseur ultra-mince (</= 1 mu ), et destinée à des applications améliorées NST et TCM pour l'affichage de pixels. Sa réalisation a été rendue possible en combinant des solutions de colorant de polyimide à des dispersions de mélanges de pigments d'oxydes métalliques dans un rapport pondéral colorant/pigment variant entre 1:15 et 3:15. Il n'est donc plus nécessaire d'utiliser de noir de fumée pour remplacer le chrome déposé par pulvérisation cathodique.
