A scheme for ultrafast magnetization reversal in an in-plane magnetized layer (3) is disclosed. For that, an external magnetic field <i>H</i>ex is applied such that the magnetization <i>M</i> precesses around the external magnetic field <i>H</i>ex and the external magnetic field <i>H</i>ex is maintained until the precession suffices to effect the magnetization reversal. The external magnetic field <i>H</i>ex is applied approximately perpendicular to the magnetization <i>M</i>.

L'invention concerne un système d'inversion de magnétisation ultra-rapide dans une couche (3) magnétisée dans le plan. A cet effet, on applique un champ magnétique extérieur <i>H</i>¿ex? tel que la magnétisation <i>M</i> présente un mouvement de précession autour du champ magnétique extérieur <i>H</i>¿ex?, qui est maintenu jusqu'à ce que cette précession suffise à effectuer l'inversion de la magnétisation.
