Character input rate of a conventional portable telephone is low because only thumb is used for inputting a character. When the inventive portable telephone provided with one joystick, two shift keys and twenty six keys on the opposite side faces is grasped by both hands and ten fingers are used, any one of twenty six alphabetical characters can be inputted by single push operation without switching the shift key and characters can be inputted at ultrahigh rate by blind touch. A novel and epoch-making field as the communication means of a portable telephone is developed and convenience of user can be enhanced significantly.
