An intraluminal catheter (10) for the ultrasonic ablation of stenoses or occlusions in a body lumen such as peripheral or coronary arteries. The catheter has an elongated ultrasonic probe (15) which can be guided from its proximal end so that the distal tip (16) thereof is positioned into contact or close proximity to the stenotic or occlusive material to be ablated. An imaging system (20) allows for the direct observation of the stenosis or occlusion so that contact with or close proximity of the probe's distal tip to the stenotic or occlusive material is maintained to ensure effective ablation with little or no remnant thereof after the procedure.
L'invention concerne un cathéter (10) que l'on introduit dans des vaisseaux tels que les artères des membres inférieurs ou les artères coronaires, pour éliminer des sténoses ou des occlusions dans ces vaisseaux, par des ultrasons. Le cathéter a une sonde à ultrasons allongée (15) qui peut être guidée depuis l'extrémité proximale du cathéter pour que l'extrémité distale (16) de la sonde soit placée au contact ou très près du matériau de l'occlusion ou de la sténose à éliminer. Un système de visualisation (20) permet d'observer directement la sténose ou l'occlusion, ce qui permet de maintenir l'extrémité distale de la sonde au contact ou très près du matériau occlusif ou de la sténose, pour assurer leur élimination efficace avec peu ou pas de restes de matériau d'occlusion après l'intervention.
