ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: In the ultrasonic anemometer, ultrasonic emit- ting probes and receiving probes are mounted to define at least three different paths for propagation of ultra- sonic signals in the air, and circuitry is provided for measuring the ultrasonic signal propagation time along the different paths and for calculating the direc- tion and the speed of the wind based upon these measure- ments. The emitting and receiving probes are low fre- quency probes, the emitting probes producing a prede- termined wave train type signal of frequency between 10 and 200 kHz: and the measuring and calculating cir- cuitry measure propagation time by correlation between the emitted and received signals.
