The system (10) includes one or more ultrasonic signal generators submerged within a water bath (16) and regulated by a controller (18) to generate an ultrasonic signal, resulting in the production of a large quantity of cavitation bubbles which implode with a vigorous cleaning action against submerged kitchen ware items (12). The controller (18) rapidly varies the specific frequency of the generated ultrasonic signal, preferably in conjunction with a rapid on-off pulse cycling of the signal, to prevent damage to or breakage of fragile ware items (12).
