A handpiece having a single set of piezoelectric elements polarized to produce longitudinal motion when excited at the relevant resonant frequency. The piezoelectric crystals are connected to an ultrasonic horn to which a cutting tip is attached. The horn and/or the cutting tip contains a plurality of diagonal slits or grooves. The slits or grooves produce optimized torsional movement in the cutting tip when the piezoelectric crystals are excited at a second resonant frequency. Preferably, the two drive frequencies are not coincident, but provided in non-overlapping pulses.
Une pièce à main comportant une série d'éléments piézoélectriques polarisés pour produire un déplacement longitudinal s'il sont excités à la fréquence de résonnance pertinente. Les cristaux piézoélectriques sont raccordés à un pavillon ultrasonore sur lequel est fixée une extrémité de coupe. Le pavillon et/ou l'extrémité de coupe contiennent plusieurs fentes ou rainures diagonales. Les fentes ou les rainures produisent un mouvement de torsion optimisé dans l'extrémité de coupe si les cristaux piézoélectriques sont excités à une deuxième fréquence de résonnance. De préférence, les deux fréquences d'entraînement ne sont pas coïncidentes, mais fournissent des pulsions ne se chevauchant pas.
